Dangerous Curves

Fashion Spotlight: Amber Riley | April 21, 2010

Amber Riley plays the sassy and strong Mercedes Jones on FOX’s hit show Glee. On the show, I have to say that Mercedes often dresses like a clown, wearing every color and style mashed together. Luckily, Riley does is not a graduate of the Mercedes School of Fashion! Last night’s Power of Madonna episode featured Mercedes in a hot purple tank and black blazer. I found myself envious of how amazing she looked and wondering if I could rock something so fierce.

The thing I love about this woman is that she is so comfortable in her own skin. Always smiling and looking fabulous stops people from thinking about the extra few pounds you have.  Yes, this is a fashion blog, however your personality and confidence in yourself is your best accessory.

The look above is simple and perfect for college style. A long tank and dark washed jeans are basics and and easy way to look great.

A few days ago, I came across this tweet from the Glee star, “It’s not about just the outside. Our spirits are what make us beautiful. Puttin on a nice dress and some makeup is just icing on the cake.” Could she be anymore awesome? Next tweet: “Big girls are sexy too, and don’t let them tell u any different! I’m representin!!!” True story right there.

Now, if you’re a fan of her style, here are a few tips:

  1. Try jewel tone dresses and bright tees. You’re going to pop in a crowd for sure!
  2. Get a really classic black blazer or versatile jacket to pair with dresses and jeans. It’s a great piece to invest in and will work for almost any occasion.
  3. Skinny jeans and booties are must. Flares will only make you look short and wide.
  4. Go for an empire waist. It will show off your bust and give you a waist.
